In modern pipeline engineering, polyethylene (PE) pipes are widely used due to their excellent corrosion resistance and durability. The Electric Fusion 90° Elbow, a key component connecting these pipes, ensures the safety and reliability of the pipeline system when changing direction. Correct installation is fundamental to ensuring the long-term stable operation of the pipeline system.

Step 1: Preparation and Safety Inspection

Adequate preparation is crucial before starting the installation of the Electric Fusion 90° Elbow.

  • Check Equipment and Materials: Ensure that the Electric Fusion 90° Elbow, PE pipes, electrofusion welding machine, scraper, and other tools are complete, and check that all components meet specifications and are undamaged.

  • Power Supply Check: Check that the power supply voltage and power of the electrofusion welding machine meet the requirements, and ensure that the power supply to the welding area is stable and reliable.

  • Pipe Preparation: Ensure that the ends of the PE pipes to be connected are flat, vertical, and free of scratches or dirt.

Tip: An Electric Fusion 90° Elbow is a pipe fitting used to change the direction of a pipeline. When selecting a PE pipe, ensure its diameter, wall thickness, and pressure rating match the PE pipe to be connected.

Step 2: Cleaning and Scraping the Pipe Surface

This is a crucial step in ensuring the quality of the Electric Fusion 90° Elbow connection.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the connection area of the PE pipe and the inner wall of the Electric Fusion 90° Elbow with a clean cloth to remove grease, dust, or moisture.

  • Precise Scraping: Use a specialized scraper or scraping tool to precisely scrape the insertion area of the PE pipe. The scraping length should be slightly greater than the insertion depth of the Electric Fusion 90° Elbow to remove the oxide layer on the pipe surface. The oxide layer will severely affect the weld quality.

Note: Scraping must be even, thorough, and performed on the entire circumference. Avoid secondary contamination of the scraped pipe surface.

Step 3: Connecting and Securing the Electric Fusion 90° Elbow

Insert the cleaned and scraped PE pipe into the Electric Fusion 90° Elbow.

  • Insertion Depth: The pipe should be fully inserted into the center of the Electric Fusion 90° Elbow, up to the specified insertion depth mark.

  • Calibration and Fixing: Use dedicated fixing clamps (clamps) to firmly align and fix the Electric Fusion 90° Elbow and pipe, ensuring they do not move or misalign during welding. The elbow and pipe axis must be aligned to guarantee optimal pipe connection.

Step 4: Electrofusion Welding Operation

This is the core step for achieving a reliable PE pipe connection.

  • Connecting the Welding Machine: Connect the electrofusion welding machine cable to the electrode post of the Electric Fusion 90° Elbow.

  • Parameter Input: Input the correct voltage and welding time into the electrofusion welding machine according to the barcode on the Electric Fusion 90° Elbow or the welding parameters provided by the manufacturer.

  • Start Welding: Start the electrofusion welding machine to begin the welding process. The welding machine will automatically complete the heating and welding according to the set program. Do not move or touch the connection during this process.

  • Observation Indicator: After welding is completed, many Electric Fusion 90° Elbows will have a weld indicator pop up, indicating that the connection has been successfully completed.

Step 5: Cooling and Final Inspection

  • Natural Cooling: After the welding machine indicates welding is complete and power is off, allow sufficient time for natural cooling. The cooling time depends on the ambient temperature and pipe specifications; strictly refer to the instructions for the Electric Fusion 90° Elbow.

  • Important Note: Do not move or remove the fixing clamps during cooling. Premature removal of the fixing clamps can cause deformation of the weld area, affecting the sealing and strength of the pipe connection.

  • Final Inspection: After cooling, remove the fixing clamps. Inspect the appearance of the weld area to ensure there are no obvious defects and the indicator post has popped out.

Proper installation of the Electric Fusion 90° Elbow is crucial for building a robust and reliable PE piping system. From thorough cleaning and scraping to precise electrofusion welding and sufficient cooling, every step is critical. Following these steps will ensure high-quality pipe connections with your Electric Fusion 90° Elbow, providing long-term reliability for your projects.
